A SHORT GLIMPSE IN MACTAN SHRINE: A HISTORIC PLACE
Mactan is surely a very historic and very memorable place for every Filipino.
A certain point of reference where our great “First Filipino hero” fought with bravery to stood for his fellow-men and most especially for FREEDOM of his people against the Spanish colonizers.
In spite how advance the armor of Magellan, the Spanish traveller/colonizer who wanted to invade the land of Lapu-lapu , Datu Lapu-Lapu is worthy to be called the leader who fought with all their might with just the iron sword, bows and bamboo spears they used against Magellan’s troops. With unity and bravery of his people, they won a great fight during the battle of Mactan. As a Filipino, aren’t we proud of it? We too, are bound to stand for our land, to love, protect and value more the land that they had protected for us, the new generation and for the coming generation.
Some photos taken (Month of April)
On August 1, 1973, President F. Marcos declared the site of the battle a National Shrine. The restoration, preservation and the reconstruction of which shall be under the supervision and control of the National Historic Commission is collaboration with the Department of tourism. By then, the “KADAUGAN SA MACTAN”(means Victory in Mactan) is yearly celebrated. Locals celebrated it portraying a role play during what happened in the Battle of Mactan and a lot of people will witness the said play. Not just that, there are a lot of activities and exhibit provided on this celebration where the road to Pusok will be closed for the said celebration.
Yearly, starting from year 2012, Kadaugan sa Mactan is celebrated, an inactment of the victory of Lapu-Lapu. The role of Lapu-lapu and Bulakna is now usually played by a well-know actors/actress in the Philippines.
